RECIP ENGINES - PREVENTING CORROSION
In the past, some have associated corrosion with
preheaters. It is true with some preheaters that
heat the oil only. Internal engine corrosion, however,
is still a major issue in aviation. One point that
engine rebuilders and overhaulers agree on is that
there is no single and clear culprit for corrosion.
The research Tanis has done in the area of internal
engine corrosion has led to the following products
that may be of value to you.
ENGINE PRESERVATION KIT
AIRCRAFT ENGINE DEHYDRATOR
Engine
Preservative Kit

Do
you want to protect your engine from rust when it
is inactive? Both Continental and Lycoming have
service
bulletins that give instructions how to do this.
The
TANIS engine protection kits give
you the proper materials to do the job as well as
copies of the service letters.
The
TANIS kit PKL 4 is for four cylinder
engines and kit PKL 6 is for six cylinder engines.
Each kit contains cylinder dehydrator plugs,
desiccant bags, streamers, warning sign, and the
proper preservative oils. The cylinder oil comes in
a spray can ready to spray into your cylinders. The
crankcase oil is added to your own mineral oil to
make the proper preservative mix.

desiccant, tape, special oils (2 types) and copies
of both Lycoming and Continental service bulletins
on preserving your engine.

TANIS AIRCRAFT ENGINE DEHYDRATOR

ABOUT THIS PRODUCT
The Tanis Aircraft Engine Dehydrator is designed to reduce the moisture in your aircraft engine crankcase in order to discourage the formation of rust on internal engine components.
The Moisture Problem
Moisture is a natural byproduct of combustion . Part of this moisture blows by the piston rings and collects in the engine crankcase. After flight, as the internal temperature drops below the dew point, moisture will condense on the colder parts of the engine and collect in the crankcase. This moisture, combined with the mild acid byproducts normally found in the engine, can cause rust problems in any climate.
The Solution
Use the Tanis Aircraft Engine Dehydrator between flights and reduce crankcase humidity levels. After engine operation we have found humidity levels to be as high as 85% to 98%. Our tests show that with continuous use of the Tanis Aircraft Engine Dehydrator the humidity levels will be reduced significantly, usually to less than 10%.
